Questions

Answers before you ask

What does Hookprint cost?

The free tier is $0 and charts three conversions a month. A single pattern is a one-off $1.99, and Unlimited is $4.99, with an annual plan that saves 30 percent. Most patterns on Ravelry or Etsy run about $3 to $8, so one chart costs less than one pattern.

Will my photo keep its detail in a chart?

Honestly, some of it goes. A busy photo with the subject far away loses the small things first, like an eye highlight or a thin whisker. A close crop and a higher stitch count keep more, and the editor lets you raise that count and see what comes back.

Can I use any photo I find online?

No. The upload screen asks you to confirm you own the photo or have the rights to use it, and third-party copyrighted images are not allowed without a licence. The terms include a takedown process for anything uploaded against that.

Will my chart come out squashed in single crochet?

No. Choose the stitch type you are working, single crochet, C2C block or square cell, and each cell is drawn at that stitch's real width and height in the editor and in the PDF. The finished size in stitches is shown with it.

Does Hookprint push the pattern into Ravelry for me?

No. You download the chart file and upload it to your Ravelry library yourself, which keeps your account yours and nothing connected that you did not connect.

Do I get written row-by-row instructions?

No, the output is the chart itself. You get the grid with its stitch count, color key and yarn weight, as a PDF or a downloadable file, and you read it row by row the way you would any graphghan chart.

Is there an app to download?

No. Hookprint works in the browser on your phone, so there is nothing to install from an app store. There are no native apps.

Can I change the chart after it appears?

Yes, that is the point of it. You can change the stitch count, the color palette and the yarn weight, and edit individual stitches, before you export anything.
